Last week I received an email from the Norfolk Care Association to say I had been nominated for the Harold Bodmer Lifetime Achievement Award. I subsequently received a letter from Norfolk County Council.

Here’s an extract

This achievement reflects your long-standing commitment to disability advocacy, inclusion and ensuring that the voices of people with lived experience are heard. It is also a reflection of the contribution you have made through your work with people, organisations and groups across Norfolk. To be shortlisted among so many deserving nominees is a significant accomplishment and something to be proud of.

The Norfolk Care Awards celebrate the skill, compassion and commitment shown by

those contributing to adult social care in many different ways. Your advocacy,

leadership and contribution to co-production play an important part in helping to make Norfolk’s care community one we can all be proud of.

Yesterday (Thursday 15th October) I attended the Celebrating our Sector: Conference and Norfolk Care Awards 2026

I didn’t win. But it was an honour to be on of four to be nominated and be a finalist.

Congratulations to Jason Parker, Registered Manager, Corton House and Brewster Court.

I often have Children stare at me in curiosity. On a few occasions many years ago when I’m waiting for a bus, young children of 3-5 years old would look and ask their mum ‘what’s wrong with that man?’
